In Key Stage 4, pupils begin their journey towards completing qualifications that will support their transition into further education and/or work. Our year 10 and 11 pupils follow accreditation pathways that reflect their strengths and interests and promote their independence. Accreditation ranges from Pre-Entry units to Entry Level 3 qualifications such as Entry Level Mathematics, Functional English and Entry Level PE.
For more information about the qualifications offered, please visit our Qualifications page.
The Key Stage 4 timetable focuses on preparation for adulthood, with learning opportunities tailored to individual needs. Independence, community participation, health and wellbeing are valuable aspects of learning taught throughout the curriculum.
Pupils are taught maths, English, ICT and PE. PSHCE and careers are delivered via weekly PfA lessons- My Health, My Independence, My Community and My Future. For more information about our Preparation for Adulthood curriculum, please click here.
Science and Humanities are delivered through our My World lessons, encouraging curiosity and enabling pupils to have a better understanding of the world around them.
Creative arts are explored through weekly My Creativity lessons, alongside a range of other enrichment opportunities such as outdoor learning, DJing, dance and cycling.
Pupils in Key Stage 4 also have an opportunity to access vocational options, including gardening, creative media and attending different taster courses at local colleges.
Pupils have regular 1:1 meetings with key adults to support them in reviewing their work and identifying next steps. Our independent careers advisers ensure pupils and families are well-informed about possible college and careers opportunities.
For those pupils who feel ready, we can also offer independent travel training, to enable them to travel between school and home independently.
