Occupational Therapy

Nethergate Academy works closely with therapists  from Children’s Sensory Therapy (CST) Occupational Therapy Service.

CST are a group of independent, highly experienced and friendly Occupational Therapists (OTs), specialising in Paediatrics and Sensory Integration Therapy. The OTs will work alongside school staff regarding the delivery of occupational therapy provision and provide strategies and programmes to meet pupils’ sensory needs.

OT support can be offered at different levels within school, depending on a pupil’s specific needs. All pupils have access to minimalistic classrooms, to reduce sensory overload and aid with regulation throughout the day, whilst having regular daily access to sensory circuits, movement breaks and organic play opportunities.

Where identified by the OT team, pupils can be provided with appropriate individual classroom strategies to support them during the school day. If deemed appropriate, pupils may receive a more in-depth sensory assessment and individual programmes, to meet their sensory needs and aid with regulation. These pupils can access Nethergate’s purpose-made sensory integration room, equipped with suspended swings and various sensory equipment to support pupils’ regulation, when necessary, throughout the day.
